COUPLES COUNSELING IN WEST SEATTLE, BURIEN, & WASHINGTON

Learn to connect on a deeper level.

You love your partner. But are you wondering if love is enough?

Couples counseling provides a structured environment where partners can openly express their thoughts and feelings, fostering clearer communication and reducing misunderstandings. Through guided dialogue and therapeutic techniques, couples learn to listen actively and respond with empathy, which helps build trust and emotional intimacy. This deeper connection not only strengthens the relationship but also enhances overall life satisfaction by promoting teamwork, resilience, and mutual support during challenging times.

Growing your family is a journey filled with excitement, hope, and sometimes unexpected challenges. Couples therapy offers a supportive space to navigate these complex emotions together. Whether you're facing infertility, pregnancy concerns, or the adjustments of parenthood, therapy helps strengthen communication, deepen emotional connection, and manage stress. By addressing fears, expectations, and conflicts early, couples can build a stronger foundation for their expanding family.

At Sea Change Therapy in West Seattle, our specialized approach provides personalized guidance tailored to your unique experience, fostering resilience and unity every step of the way. Investing in couples therapy is investing in a healthier, more connected family future.

We’re here to support you through this change.

Couples therapy for real couples with real challenges who need real hope.

You know those moments when you and your partner connect deeply – when you really see each other and feel understood? You've experienced that beautiful openness before, but lately it feels harder to reach. Maybe conversations that start with good intentions somehow spiral into familiar arguments, or perhaps you find yourselves retreating into polite distance when things get difficult.

Couples therapy helps you learn to ride the waves together instead of being swept away by every emotional storm. When you understand how to move through difficult conversations without losing your footing, you'll find that the connection you're seeking becomes stronger and more resilient. Together, we'll help you create – and keep creating – a relationship where you can weather any storm while staying emotionally close. You'll discover how to talk openly not just during calm moments, but even when the waters get rough, building a bond that actually grows stronger through the challenges rather than being worn down by them.

What we’ll work on:

  • Breaking through conversation barriers – Moving past the cycles where discussions turn into arguments or shut down entirely, so you can actually hear each other

  • Rebuilding emotional safety – Creating a space where both of you feel secure enough to share your real thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or rejection

  • Strengthening your emotional bond – Reconnecting with the care and affection that brought you together, even when it feels buried under frustration or distance

  • Developing tools for lasting connection – Learning practical ways to stay emotionally connected during everyday stress and future challenges

FAQS

What others have wondered about couples therapy

  • We provide couples therapy for all kinds of relationships, welcoming all genders, sexual orientations, and relationship styles—including monogamous, polyamorous, and polycule connections.

  • We do an assessment phase first, to make sure we really understand where you’re at, what you’ve tried, and where you want to go. This involves 3-4 assessment sessions: 1 initial session together, 1 with each member of the relationship. Then we rejoin to ensure we have a common goal.

It’s off to the races - we then work weekly to activate real, lasting change.

  • Unfortunately, no. Our modern healthcare system only sees 1 person as a patient, not a couple/family system. It’s a limitation of our healthcare billing system. On top of that, nearly all insurances will exclude ‘marital counseling’ or ‘relationship distress’ from covered services, as they do not meet the insurance companies’ criteria for medically necessary services.

We know that relationship distress is real. We can help. To help expand support, we offer low-cost therapy with our graduate student interns.
